Adventures In Arkansas Part 2

Backtracking a bit to a few outings we had this month.

We went camping.

That statement right there....um yeah. It was the first time we've ever been camping as a family. Years ago as a teenager I did a lot of camping. It was usually mostly miserable due to being unprepared. Sometimes it was just sleeping (er, passing out) in the back of a truck backed up to a campfire. When it did involve tents the weather never seemed to cooperate. As an even younger person I went on a few camping trips with my friend's families and it was mostly enjoyable.

I was really unsure what to expect at this stage in my life. Would the kids have fun? Would we all abandon ship in the middle of the night? Did we bring enough beer?

Arkansas truly is the Natural State. I had to stop for this picture on the way to the Cossatot.

We require homemade marshmallows.

Exploring parts of the river.

The Cossatot is one of the clearest cleanest rivers I've ever seen.

It was pretty chilly so I decided to kick it on the bank and look at rocks.

I love rocks.

Camp. We had a good day and a fun evening. The rain started about 2 a.m. and didn't quit. We packed it
in about eight the next morning due to the torrential downpour.

Camping wears a girl out.

We had already visited one fun farm this Fall, but we decided to try out another one. This time we visited Wild Things Farm in Pocola. Technically its in Oklahoma so it wasn't really an Arkansas Adventure but its only a few miles from the border. My mom went with us this time and the kids really enjoyed having their Grandma along on one of our outings.

  1. Hey Ashley! This is Jen (huckdoll) but not sure how my comment profile is going to show up. I started blogging again at jenlynneh.wordpress.com in case it doesn't link. Anyway your camping trip looks really nice. Homemade marshmallows! Fancy! We decided to take a break from camping after many years of doing it because inevitably something major goes wrong or happens every single time. Last time our tent zipper broke and Colin had to cut holes in an tie with string. We chucked it the next morning and never looked back. Cabins are our new best friend :) Miss ya!! xo
