Home Is Where....

I read Hebrews the other evening as part of a reading plan in my Bible. Two verses really stuck with me and I wanted to share them.

Hebrews 3:4 For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.

Hebrews 13:2  Do not forget to entertain strangers for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.

I am always in a state of remodel. On my house and on myself. I always wish for bigger and better and nicer and newer. Spending all this time imagining more is not working for me. My house is fine. It's style suits me. It's cozy. When do I just let go and enjoy it?

As far as strangers, well that is a bone of contention. I AM NOT a people person. I come off as one. Very friendly and outgoing and smiley and what not. But it is so uncomfortable to me to talk to strangers. I genuinely feel concern and the need to help but when will I act on it?

What do you take from these lines of scripture?

  1. I just love the second verse Ash. And for the record, I think everyone is in a constant state of re-inventing and pushing yourself to do more, be more, etc. There is something to be said for being content, yes, but there is also something to be said for striving as well. Look at just the way you've changed your body in the last year, amazing!

  2. Can I comment?

IMO, people who spend a lifetime seeking more, bigger, better, fancier, etc...are actually missing something *inside* themselves. (And your recent decision to read some of the Bible sort of hints the same)

Ask yourself why you crave more? Not just, "I want it". But go deeper. Maybe you want to create an image that others admire or look up to? Maybe having "things" is a payoff for the missing relationships in your life? I'm not sayin either of those are the answer. Tossing out suggestions and examples only. Only you can answer that.

When people feel an emptiness inside, they try to fill the void. Some want material things, some choose drugs & alcohol (avoidance), others need fame....

And others.... they rely on pets for that feeling of acceptance and unconditional love that eludes them. ;)

I think that if you continue your spiritual journey and self reflection, you will come to a point where you are satisfied with what you have and who you are.
