V-Day, Snow Day, Reveal Day

It's been a long week. Long and busy and I swear I'm just going to keel over and die at any minute. Thursday I started the difficult task of prepping and priming the kitchen. Then in the middle of my productiveness I remembered it was also Valentine's Day parties at school. I really didn't need to take part in any of that sugar induced chaos but I went, I snapped a few pics, and I hauled my spawn home. But not before catching the Monster with his cutie pie girlfriend. She is adorable and such a sassy little thing. This whole boyfriend/girlfriend thing just kills me.

We had ample time to prepare for Arkansas Blizzard 2010. We stockpiled milk, diapers, firewood, and booze. All we got was a few inches though. Kind of a disappointment but the kids enjoyed it anyways. Except Sugarbaby. She's not all that sure about the cold. I think she prefers swimming and sunning to freezing and runny noses.

The boys and SUMS built this cool dude of a snowman. He fell over two hours later.

And here is what I know you have all been waiting for. The preliminary kitchen reveal. Preliminary because I ran out of paint and still have to finish two walls. Also the hardware on the cabinets is going to be replaced and the laminate wood floors still have to be installed. Oh and the dining room table is neither done or in the proper place. But...but! I did get most of the kitchen painted and SUMS hung my new wood blinds. So it is looking good despite the shocking color of red yours truly picked out. As we were applying it we went through various stages of amusement. First it looked like Pepto coming out of the can. Then it was more of a Mexican Fiesta red. It has grown on me though and I'm thinking it is the exact color of the barn that I see out the big kitchen window. Y'all let me know what you think.

P.S. The countertops are not staying but we haven't made any definite decisions on what direction we will be going with those. I want stainless steel, he wants poured concrete. Decisions, decisions.

I love this little owl paper towel holder. It was here when we moved in but I didn't notice for the longest time because it just blended right into the paneling. Now it really stands out.

  1. When you said red, I wasn't sure...but I love the result! I like poured concrete counter tops after seeing them on PW's. Looks like you have a nice long space to work.

Too sweet, the gf and Monster. :)

  2. Stainless is a pain in the dick to keep clean, plus every little nick and cut shows. And you have to find someone that is really fantastic to cut & install or you could be in a world of trouble. Go with the poured concrete. And I love the red!

  5. I've taken quite joy in following your remodeling pics/stories here and on FB...I have a lot to do in my house and don't have the talent or money to do it.

    I'm living through you.
