Ho! Ho! Ho! Whatever....Cookies!

It's Winter. Not technically right? I mean the first day of Winter is December 21st. Not there yet.

But, it is the holiday season and a time of joy and cookies and cute babies in coats and weight gain and woodsmoke and sugarplums and mistletoe and spiked eggnog. And for some people fireworks but I don't so much do the fireworks. I'm a little too jumpy for that. Reference the alcohol. It helps. And see the baby in the coat, up there? She helps too.
Our modest little parade. I'll only post one picture this year as opposed to the 10 or so from last year.

And since last year I gifted you with the most awesome cheesecake recipe ever, I thought I would gift you again. The gift of the most awesome sugar cookie recipe ever. You are so welcome.

Look at my great grandma's cookie cutters. Some of them are her's anyways. Or so I was told. I think. The moose and the bass look pretty old so I'm sticking with my story.

I love the snowman and the star shown here and the Christmas tree and scalloped circle not pictured. These are sturdy cutters and so fun to use. Yeah, I actually let my little monsters use them. They assisted in this cookie baking endeavor. And I didn't want to pull out my hair or scream or drink a whole bottle of wine. It was a Christmas miracle.

The dough is quality I tell ya, so make it today. You will love it. But be careful not to over bake them. Like most cookies, the timing is the most important thing. That and not mixing up the salt and sugar. Like you would ever do that.

Sorry there are no pictures of cookies in their baked state. We ate them all. No joke.

Actually I forgot cause the whole process took a while. Whoops.

I should bake a bunch of moose and just randomly send them to Canadian bloggers.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies
1 1/2 cups butter, softened
2 cups white sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
5 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
In large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time and vanilla. In another bowl stir together flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture blending as you go. Cover dough and chill for at least an hour
or overnight.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookies sheets. Bake 6-8 minutes. Let cool on pan one minute before removing to cooling rack.
SugarBritches baking notes: This dough makes a lot of cookies. When you're rolling them out and the dough starts to get a little too soft, ball it back up, wrap in plastic wrap and stick in the fridge for 5-10 minutes. Also pay very close attention to the time. They really only take 6 minutes depending on your oven.

  1. Hi, I saw your comment over at Casa Hice. Cousins....which cousin?
I am one of those family memebers that tend to lose track of the extended family.

Your kids are adorable, by the way!
