Down The Long Hall

Today I dropped the boys off for their first day of school.

They were excited and jittery and talkative the whole way there. The Monster was nervous, he didn't want to go. Cashman was another story. All he has talked about for the whole summer is this day. Me? Well I was just ready for a break.

Right inside the building Cashman's sweet sweet preschool teacher was waiting. She greeted us and gathered him and a few other tiny human beings up to walk to their room. I told him to follow her and he did. Without looking back. Without hugging me or saying bye. He just walked off as if he had been doing it his whole life.

I followed some distance behind with Sugarbaby and the Monster. I kept my eye on Cashman until we had to turn off to the First grade hall. His little shoulders were held high, his Lightning McQueen backpack bounced along and he looked like he belonged.

I swear I didn't cry until I got in the car.

  1. Right there with you. My 6YO did the same thing on her first day of Kindergarten. I was devastated and happy all at the same time.

  2. Good for you! When I confessed to Jake, when he was going into kindergarten that I was nervous and I might cry when he got on the bus, he said to me, "Don't cry Mommy, just let me go." They are ready, WE are the ones that aren't. :)
